The 70-year-old English musician, singer, and songwriter, is the latest in a line of musicians to sell off his music rights announcing that his back catalogue has been bought for an undisclosed fee by Universal Music.
Universal took to Twitter to celebrate the news saying: “It’s with great excitement that we welcome Sting’s acclaimed song catalog to the UMPG family. We are thrilled to work with Sting to further build his vast audience reach and strengthen the impact of his song catalog which includes everything from the Police to his solo work."

According to Variety, the catalogue went for around R5 billion.
Sting, whose real name is Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, was the frontman, songwriter, and bassist for the Police from 1977 to 1984, launching his solo career in 1985. He has won an impressive 17 Grammy Awards over the years.
And despite being a septuagenarian, Sting is currently touring across 16 countries and has 64 upcoming concerts.
