Sir Elton John has rushed to the defence of Prince Harry and his “princess” over mass criticism of their recent trips to exotic destinations via luxury jets. The impact upon the environment from jet travel when it comes to the global carbon footprint is immense, and this is the self-same environmental issue that the Duke and Duchess have been lecturing us lesser mortals on of late.
As a consequence they have been lambasted in both parliament and the media for seeming to embrace the tenet, “do as I say, not as I do”. The backlash was such that Sir Elton John took to Twitter to defend his friends, claiming that he had arranged their transport for their visit to his villa in Nice.
His twitter post read as follows : “I am deeply distressed by today’s distorted and malicious account in the press surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s private stay at my home in Nice last week. I support Prince Harry’s commitment to the environment, we ensured their flight was carbon neutral, by making the appropriate contribution to Carbon Footprint™. I highly respect and applaud both Harry and Meghan’s commitment to charity and I’m calling on the press to cease these relentless and untrue assassinations on their character that are spuriously crafted on an almost daily basis. Elton”
