Los Angeles (dpa) – Serena Williams has given birth to a baby girl, multiple US media outlets reported Friday.
The baby – the tennis superstar’s first – was delivered at St Mary’s Medical Center, the Palm Beach Post reported. No name was disclosed.
“Obviously I’m super excited. I mean words can’t describe,” her sister Venus told sports broadcaster ESPN at the US Open in New York.
Williams, the winner of 23 grand slam tennis titles, including this year’s Australian Open, revealed her pregnancy on Snapchat in April.
The former WTA number one has vowed to make a comeback to tennis in 2018.
Despite no official confirmation of the birth, pop star Beyonce and tennis player Rafael Nadal were amongst those congratulating Williams
on social media.
Williams is engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. The couple have been together since 2015.
