It doesn't get any better than this for an up-and-coming thespian! Pietermaritzburg-born Thuso Mbedu is gearing up to make her international debut opposite Viola Davis in an Amazon commissioned historical film titled The Woman King. This epic movie is inspired by the true events that took place in The Kingdom of Dahomey, one of the most powerful states of Africa in the 18th and 19th centuries. Thuso was hand-picked for the role by the Oscar, Emmy, and Tony winner Davis, and her producing partner and husband, Julius Tennon. The movie is set to be directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood.
Twenty-nine-year-old Thuso took to social media to share the exciting news.

Thuso is a two-time International Emmy Award nominee for Best Actress in a Drama Series for her role on Mzansi Magic’s “Is’Thunzi”.
IMDb reports that The Woman King tells the story of a general of an all-female military unit, who together with her daughter, fought the French and neighboring tribes who violated their honor, enslaved their people, and threatened to destroy everything they lived for.
