A collective wave of shock and deep sadness swept across South Africa with the passing of gospel star Neyi Zimu who died in hospital on Wednesday. Fans, fellow musicians, the EFF and the South Government took to social media to express their condolences.
The South African government said on social media, "We are very sad by the passing of gospel artist and worship Pastor Neyi Zimu who lost his battle with cancer. We send our condolences to his family and friends. His music touched many #RIPNeyiZimu."

In November of this year, it had been revealed that Pastor Zimu was battling a rare form of skin cancer. Despite this, he had continued to perform and was often seen wearing gloves during performances as the skin cancer began to ravage his face and body. May you RIP Neyi Zimu.
