Musician Ernest "Chicco" Twala has been released on bail of R2000 following his court appearance on a charge of common assault.
The National Prosecuting Authority said Twala appeared in the Randburg Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.
His court appearance was a sequel to an incident on Sunday involving two City Power employees who had responded to a power outage in Bloubosrand.
NPA spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane, said it is alleged that after they had switched off the power to deal with the fault, Twala allegedly charged at one of the men and strangled him, and pointed “what resembles a firearm” at the employee.
She said the case against Twala was postponed to 26 August.
