Reach for a Dream Foundation breaks Guinness World Record!

Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala was one of the celebrities who cooked up a storm to help South Africa officially break the Guinness World Record

The atmosphere was jubilant at the Discovery Vitality Healthy Food Studio and Emperors Palace last Thursday, June 24, as Reach For A Dream together with celebrity chefs J’Something and David Higgs joined forces with close to 2000 South Africans in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most people cooking simultaneously online.

The Foundation is proud to report that it was officially announced, by the Guinness World Records Adjudicator, Sophia Greenacre from the UK, that Reach For A Dream had succeeded in breaking the Guinness World Record’s title for the most people cooking simultaneously online on the night. The attempt was part of The Reach For A Dream Foundation’s Cooking For Dreams fundraising initiative.

“The Cooking For Dreams event was wonderful and it was inspiring to see so many South Africans come together in support of our dream children and for the exciting moment to break a Guinness World Record!”, said Julia Sotirianakos, Reach For A Dream CEO

The Cooking For Dream’s participants were certainly in good hands as the My Kitchen Rules SA judges reunited to host the record-breaking event and demonstrate to all the participants, who watched via various online platforms and Youtube how to make a delicious “easy-peasy, pea curry”. Participants purchased their Cooking For Dreams box for R350 from the event website www.cookingfordreams.org.za and received the box delivered by DHL filled with Woolworth's ingredients to make the dish.

The intention behind the Cooking For Dreams event and Guinness World Record title attempt was ultimately to raise funds for the Foundation. The event exceeded in this and more, mapping South Africa as the second country to hold the Guinness World Record’s titleholder. The previous record was clinched earlier this year in the UK with 532 people cooking online.

Reach For A Dream believes in the power of making dreams come true and this event proved once again that – no dream is too big.
