Both eNCA (DStv 403) and Afro Worldview (DStv 405) aired footage of parts of the memorial service that took place last week Thursday of much loved entertainment personality, Akhumzi Jezile. However, the very broadcaster for whom Akhumzi had worked for many years, and who was loved by millions of their viewers, failed to share this final goodbye to the tragically deceased celebrity. The SABC News channel and the SABC's three terrestrial TV channels did not cover the service at all, and there was no explanation given as to why. As is the norm in today’s world, the public went to social media to lambaste the public broadcaster using the slogan, ‘SABC is trash’. There has been no comment from their camp as yet.
Despite their failure to honour Akhumzi by flighting his memorial service, Milly Summergill, the editorial editor for Prime Time Entertainment at the SABC, announced at the memorial that the Akhumzi Jezile Director Internship was soon to be launched to assist producers and directors in their careers.
