On Friday night Andy Kawa launched her memoir Kwanele, Enough with Exclusive Books. It is the account of her bitter battle with the South African Police Service to get justice not only for herself but ultimately for all women. Ten years ago a stroll along Kings Beachfront on a summer’s day turned into her worst nightmare. Abducted in broad daylight, she was dragged into nearby dunes, held down and assaulted by several men for fifteen hours. Her attackers have never been caught.
Kawa successfully sued the police for failing to properly investigate the attack and in November 2018 Justice Sarah Septon found the police officers to have been grossly negligent. However, the police appealed the case and won.
Thus began a battle for Kawa as she refused to give up her fight for justice. She has begun her appeal to the Constitutional Court – this is her story.
Kwanele, Enough is published by nb and is available online. or at your local bookstore.
