It’s official, despite the rumours, Oprah Winfrey will not be running for the presidency in 2020, telling Vogue magazine that it would “kill” her.
The American talk-show host opened up about her feelings on running in the next American election during a cover interview with the prestigious Vogue magazine. If you cast your mind back to January of this year you will remember her powerful speech at the Golden Globes awards. This saw her becoming the first black woman to receive the Cecil B Demille award and also saw her being put forward as a presidential candidate for the next election .
She will be remembered for saying : "When that new day finally dawns it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure they become the leaders to take us to the time where nobody has to say 'me too' again." Her speech received a standing ovation and many fans and stars, including Meryl Streep, called for her to take on Donald Trump in 2020 but Oprah has finally shut down that speculation saying she could not cope in politics. “In that political structure, all the non-truths, the b******, the c***, the nastiness, the backhanded backroom stuff that goes on, I feel like I could not exist,” she said, “I would not be able to do it. It’s not a clean business. It would kill me.”
You can read the full feature in the August issue of British Vogue which is available for digital download or on newstands this Friday the 6th July. Oprah also discusses race, feminism and her royal wedding appearance. The picture above is of Oprah's last appearance on the cover of Vogue (US Vogue) 20-years ago.
