Once sidelined, romantic comedies rise again this summer

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The summer movie season is always full of action pics and superheroes, but this year a once dormant yet utterly adored genre is coming back in a big way: The romantic comedy.

So far, 2018 is proving to be a re-birth for the lost Hollywood staple. Paramount's "Book Club," 20th Century Fox's "Love, Simon" and MGM and Pantelion's "Overboard" have already made an impact at the box office. They're just the first of many to come including upcoming releases "Set It Up," ''Crazy Rich Asians" and "Destination Wedding."

The resurgence comes a year after major Hollywood studios abandoned the genre completely.
