Theatre shows speaking to current affairs and socio-economic matters will enthrall audiences at next year's Nelson Mandela Bay Arts Festival.
The Metro said the festival will take place from 22 February to 2 March, and will be hosted in Gqeberha as a project of the Nelson Mandela Municipality.
In a statement, the Metro said the artists who will be taking in the festival were selected from over 216 entrants by a committee working alongside the National Arts Festival’s artistic director, Rucera Seethal, to make the final selection.
"There were some difficult choices to be made but the Committee considered audience tastes and a balance of work from all across the Nelson Mandela Bay area. We think it's a strong and diverse program with something for everybody," saud Artistic Committee member, Kurt Terblanche.
The 2025 Mandela Bay Arts Festival is the third iteration of the Festival, which was first staged in 2022.
Shows such as Ibhinqa, a play that sheds light on the harsh realities of abuse and betrayal, Tastes Like Poetry which is poetic work that combines theatre and music in a rich and complex relationship and Protection Fee, which highlights the extortion network which has become rife in Gqeberha.
Ghoema Vibes, Jou ma se Platspelers, and Sielkos will also be among the shows to choose from.
Dance shows and exhibitions can also be seen including local ones.
