The Eastern Cape-based series Gqeberha: The Empire was rumoured to not be returning for a second season. This was alleged by entertainment commentator Phil Mphela on his Twitter timeline.
The series started on a high with people looking forward to a different set-up and a different storyline. Gqeberha: The Empire is centered around the character Luzuko Mxenge played by Mbulelo Grootbom who is married to four wives, Bulelwa, Zimkhitha, Nozuko and Anathi Mxenge.
Taking to his Twitter timeline the entertainment commentator shared the following:
“Gqeberha The Empire canned The Mzansi Magic telenovela based in the Eastern Cape will not be renewed for another season when its current one ends. While the show started off lukewarm, its ratings were actually improving, pulling around 650k viewers per peak episode,” wrote Phil.
