Mos Def allowed to leave South Africa

Yasiin Bey, born Dante Terrel Smith, is finally allowed to leave South Africa after he apologised.

Bey, better known as Mos Def, tried to leave the country in January with a World Passport which SA does not recognise.

Home affairs said that Bey, who has lived in Cape Town since 2013, will be declared an undesirable person for his actions and will not be granted re-entry to South Africa.

In a statement they said that he has "unreservedly" apologised for his actions and they have withdrawn all charges.

The World Passport is a document issued by a non-profit organisation called World Service Authority, set up in the United States after World War Two to advocate for world citizenship.

Despite being grounded Bey still released music this year and says that he will continue with his performances in the U.S.

The artist will be performing at the Apollo Theater late December followed by back-to-back performances at the Kennedy Centre.
