A list actor Morgan Freeman has made it his personal crusade to educate and do what he can to protect these insects as scientists say that bee colonies are disappearing the world over at a rapid rate.
Their role as the world's most important pollinator of food crops is undeniable. It is estimated that one-third of the food that we consume each day relies on pollination mainly by bees, hence Freeman's decision to turn his 124-acre ranch in Mississippi into a sanctuary for bees.
Forbes broke the news a couple of weeks ago that the 81-year-old actor has imported 26 bee hives into his ranch from Arkansas. He has also planted lavender and magnolia trees to attract more bees to his home.
It was reported on WFLA.COM that in an appearance on Jimmy Fallon back in 2014, Freeman explained his foray into beekeeping saying, “There’s a concerted effort to bring bees back onto the planet. We do not realize that they are the foundation, I think, of the growth of the planet, the vegetation.”
His latest philanthropic move has won him plenty of hearts on social media! Nice one Freeman!
Thank you, Morgan Freeman! #savethebees https://t.co/PAwanLQHKW
