WASHINGTON, February 27 (Sputnik) – Filmmaker Barry Jenkins’ drama “Moonlight” has won the best picture trophy at the 89th Academy Awards.
The Oscars ceremony was broadcast by the ABC channel. Musical “La La Land” was initially named as the winner due to a reading error.
“Moonlight” follows the journey of a young black man growing in a rough Miami neighborhood.
“La La Land,” “Arrival,” “Manchester by the Sea,” “Hacksaw Ridge,” “Fences,” “Hell or High Water,” “Hidden Figures” and “Lion” were the rival nominees.
