In the wake of the devastating news of the senseless and heinous rape and murder of UCT student Uyinene Mrwetyana, there has been a collective cry of outrage from South African women of all walks of life.
No less our newly crowned Miss South Africa Zozibini Tunzi who had this to say on Twitter : “Someone asked me in an interview a few days ago if I thought we had a successful women's month this year? And I thought to myself- how? When we're dying for being women. As far as I'm concerned, women in my country are an endangered species. Stop killing us! #UyineneMrwetyana

The shocking news has since also seen the hashtag #amINext surface, as well as a change.org petition calling on Parliament to declare gender-based violence a state of emergency in the country.
