Miracle on the Hudson now a movie starrng Tom Hanks


LOS ANGELES, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) ? Warner Bros.? film ?Sully? debuted this weekend with 35.5 million U.S. dollars in ticket sales in the United States and Canada, dominating the North American weekend box office race. 

Directed by Clint Eastwood and starred by Tom Hanks as Captain Chesley ?Sully? Sullenberger, ?Sully? became the fifth largest September openings of all-time in North America. And it has been seven years since Tom Hanks starred in a live action film that opened atop the weekend box office.

?Sully? was also the first Hollywood feature film to be shot 100 percent with IMAX cameras. Among 3,525 locations in North America where ?Sully? was debuted, the film was screened on 375 IMAX locations, making it the largest September IMAX opening for a wide release with an estimated 4 million dollars in ticket sales.

?Sully? received an ?A? from first-night movie-goers on CinemaScore and 83 percent of positive rates from critics on RottenTomatoes.

Internationally, ?Sully? debuted in 39 international markets and brought in an estimated 9.5 million dollars, according to box office tracking firm comScore.

Another premiere, ?When The Bough Breaks,? was in the second place with 15 million dollars in ticket sales. The film unexpectedly got 0 percent of positive review from critics on RottenTomatoes and a ?B? from the audience, which indicated it could fall sharply next weekend.

?Don?t Breathe? was in the third place, with an estimated 8.2 million dollars in ticket sales this weekend and 66.8 million dollars over three weeks of showings.

The 10 most-popular movies this week were ?Suicide Squad? (5.7 million dollars), ?The Wild Life? (3.4 million), ?Kubo And the Two Strings? (3.2 million), ?Pete?s Dragon? (2.9 million), ?Bad Moms? (2.8 million), ?Hell Or High Water? (2.6 million) and ?Sausage Party? (2.3 million). Enditem
