Michael Buble regrets being "reckless with hearts" when he first became famous. The 41-year-old singer signed a record deal when he was in his 20s, finding worldwide success with his third album in 2003. Over the years his love life has featured in the press, particularly when his engagement to actress Debbie Timuss came to an end in 2005, and he started dating actress Emily Blunt soon after. That relationship ended in 2008 when Michael was unfaithful, and speaking on British radio programme Desert Island Discs on Sunday (30Oct16), the singer admits he feels bad about the way he has previously acted towards the opposite sex."Fame stunts your growth," he said.
"I handled it very poorly. I regret the way I treated a lot of my family and even myself. I was reckless with hearts. But I got my karma."Early on I wasn't equipped to handle it. That's why you have to have people around you who love you enough to put you in your place."Following his split from Emily, Michael started dating Argentinian actress and model Luisana Lopilato, with the pair marrying in 2011.
They now have two sons together; three-year-old Noah and nine-month-old Elias, and Michael credits his family situation for changing his life and helping him overcome an addiction to marijuana. "We all battle with our own demons. A lot changed when I had kids," he added. While Michael is focused on balancing his personal and professional lives, he insists his family will always come first - regardless of his success in the music industry.
"I won't allow that to happen," Michael said of prioritising music over his kids. "I get sick way too often... having young kids is like a petri dish of infections. My manager tells me I have to stay away from my kids and stop kissing them, but I would take getting sick a million times over for those kisses."
