Met Gala 2024: Iconic Fashion Moments

Last night marked the grandest fashion event of the year—the annual Met Gala! Co-chaired by Vogue Editor-In-Chief, Ms. Anna Wintour, along with Latino music stars Bad Bunny and Jennifer Lopez, US actress Zendaya, and Australian actor Chris Hemsworth, their collective responsibility was to ensure the event's publicity and absolute success.

The theme for this year's Met Gala was "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion," with the dress code being "The Garden of Time," inspired by a 1962 short story of the same title by J.G. Ballard. The concept behind the theme aimed to spotlight the fragility and "inevitable decay" of clothing. The exhibition showcased various iconic looks from different moments in fashion history, including the Venus and Junon Dresses by Dior, a black floral evening coat by Charles Frederick Worth created in 1889, and the infamous spring 2011 Alexander McQueen butterfly dress worn by Effie Trinket in the Hunger Games (2012).

This year's carpet featured a white backdrop with green shading on the edges, maintaining a simple and delicate aesthetic, perhaps as a nod to the theme. Celebrities such as Tyla put their unique spin on the theme; she wore a custom Balmain dress representing an hourglass. The dress was crafted with sculpted sand to contour to her body, and she carried an hourglass-shaped bag. Elle Fanning also delivered an iconic moment, donning custom Balmain. She gracefully walked the carpet exuding an ethereal aura, reminiscent of a fairy in a garden.
