\Marion Cotillard's longtime partner Guillaume Canet has broken his silence about false gossip swirling around the French actress' relationship with Brad Pitt. The Inception star found herself in the middle of Pitt and Angelina Jolie's marriage split drama earlier this week (beg19Sep16), when rumours suggesting she had romanced the actor on the set of their new film Allied began to hit the Internet.Cotillard released a statement confirming reports she was pregnant with her second child, and admitted the rumours she had broken up a Hollywood marriage were "affecting people I love".Now actor and director Canet, the father of Marion's five-year-old son Marcel and her unborn baby, has taken to Instagram to address the drama, insisting the cheating rumours are "stupid and unfounded".
"I don't usually make it a habit to comment on rumours made about us," the 42-year-old, who Marion called "the man of my life, father of our son and of the baby we are expecting" in her statement, wrote in French, alongside a picture of a 'Danger' road sign. "I also don't usually talk about my private life which until now I've always protected attentively... but the fury of the tabloids, the venal stupidity of some people calling themselves journalists, the haters who feel braver behind a keyboard, drive me to speak of the pride, love, respect and admiration I have for Marion staying as strong and intelligent in the face of all these stupid and unfounded accusations." I think we're all living with much more important things at this moment and now it's time to move on and raise the bar a bit." Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt on Monday (19Sep16), citing irreconcilable differences.
Cotillard dismissed reports suggesting she was "devastated" by the news, but wrote: "I do very much wish that Angelina and Brad, both whom (sic) I deeply respect, will find peace in this very tumultuous moment."Cotillard and Canet began dating in 2007 and he directed the actress in 2010's Little White Lies, as well as Blood Ties in 2013. The two stars will share the screen together in the upcoming Rock 'n' Roll.
