Local athlete runs herself straight into a TEDx Talk!

Dedicated rhino activist and endurance athlete Sharon Jessop (Source : Instagram )

Well-known local endurance athlete, Sharon Jessop, who started dedicating her running to rhino conservation in 2020, has been invited to represent not only the rhinos and the Eastern Cape, but the whole of South Africa in San Diego at the TEDx Countdown Event on environmentalism and climate change!

Jessop, who has completed two running expeditions to raise awareness and funds for rhino conservation, was selected to deliver the TEDx talk on December 30th, 2023 after being interviewed on the Business Elevation show on Voice America and the Leadership and Loyalty Podcast in Canada.

Says Jessop: “I am thrilled at the opportunity to represent not only the rhinos and the Eastern Cape, but the whole of South Africa in San Diego at the TEDx Countdown Event on environmentalism and climate change and spread “my idea worth spreading”! It is such an honor and privilege. Who would’ve thought that “running wild for rhinos” would put me on a world stage – it is super exciting and very humbling.”

She also hopes that speaking at the TEDx event will open doors for obtaining more and much-needed funding for rhino conservation in South Africa from overseas, as well as put her on the map as an international speaker.

Sharon is a wildlife warrior, conservationist, fitness fanatic, ultra-endurance athlete, adventurer, adrenalin junkie, serial entrepreneur, coach and trainer, motivational speaker and storyteller. She completed a Guinness World Record on 1 January 2021 by running the most consecutive half marathon distances by a female, 102 consecutive days.

Further running expeditions through South Africa are on the cards for this indefatigable wildlife warrior with the hope of expanding these expeditions into the African continent as well.

Sharon says she is looking forward to an "adventurous and exciting" 2024 for her and our rhinos.

Bravo Sharon - and thank you for what you do for our rhinos!
