Johnny Depp’s housekeeper, Hilda Vargas, appeared as a witness at the actor's libel action trial against The Sun and its publishers News Group Newspapers via video-link on Tuesday in day six of Depp’s libel trial. Depp is suing The Sun and NGN over an article published in 2018 in which he was described as a "wife-beater" – a claim he vehemently denies.
Taking the stand via video-link Hilda Vargas described in graphic detail her account of finding faeces in the star's bed - the actor has previously claimed it was Amber Heard or one of her friends who defecated in the bed. Depp has also stated that this 'prank' had been a deciding factor in ending his marriage to Heard.
Heard has previously said that their dogs must have defecated in the bed.
As quoted by Sky News, Ms Vargas said in her witness statement that she "pulled back the top sheet on the bed and saw a large pile of faeces". She continued: "I did not know what to think of what I had discovered. I was completely shocked." The court was also shown photographs taken by Vargas of the faeces.
Ms Vargas also said she "knew" the faeces could not have come from either of the couple's two dogs, saying she had "cleaned up after those dogs many times and their faeces are much smaller".
Ms Vargas who was speaking in Spanish through a translator also gave her account of cleaning Depp’s home in April 2016 - the day after it is alleged the actor was violent towards Amber Heard on the night of her 30th birthday party. She said in her statement “ in the over 30 years I have worked for Mr Depp, I have never seen Mr Depp be physical with or yell at anyone."
The explosive trial continues in London’s High Court.
