India's space agency ISRO announced via X that its Vikram robotic lander will attempt to land on the moon Wednesday, 23 August. This as Russia announced the destruction of its moon-bound craft.

The post was uploaded as word broke of  Russia's Luna-25 having crashed into the moon's surface after spinning into “uncontrolled orbit”.

According to ISRO, India's Vikram robotic lander is expected to touch down a few hundred miles from Russia's targeted site within the lunar south pole.

ISRO said on social media:  "Chandrayaan-3 is set to land on the moon on 23 August, around 6.04 pm Indian Standard Time (IST).

"Thanks for the wishes and positivity!"

They also invited their followers to stay abreast of all the action by sharing links to watch the momentous occasion live writing: “Let’s continue experiencing the journey together as the action unfolds LIVE at: ISRO Website isro.gov.in YouTube.”
