The Iconic soul and R&B singer Betty Wright has passed on at the age of 66. She is known for her classic songs such as “Clean Up Woman”, “No Pain No Gain” and “Tonight is the night”.
It has been confirmed that the singer died in her home in Miami due to Cancer.

Betty Wright was born in the year 1953 and she started her musical career with Echoes of Joy which was her family’s gospel group in Miami. At the age of 15 she released her first album “My First Time Around” which gave her a top 40 song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Born Bessie Regina Norris in 1953, Wright started her music career singing with Echoes of Joy, her family's gospel group in Miami. In 1968, at age 15, she released her debut album, My First Time Around, giving her a top 40 song on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Girls Can't Do What the Guys Do."
Wright’s music went and got sampled by numerous artists such as Sublime, Afrika Bambaataa and R&B sensation Mary J. Blige. In 1975 she won a Grammy for best R&B song which was “Where is the Love”.
Proving to be a powerhouse Wright founded her own record label Ms. B Records in the 80’s and released the album “Mother Wit” featuring the popular song “No Pain (No Gain)”.
In the year 2003 she went and co-produced Joss Stone’s The Soul Sessions which was a collection of classic R&B songs from the 60’s and 70’s. The album was released under S-Curve Records and was shortlisted for England’s Mercury Prize.
In 2006 she was appointed vocal coach by P Diddy on his television show Making the Band and in 2011 she worked with The Roots for a collaborative album, Betty Wright: The Movie which has guest features such as Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne and Stone.
