Movie mogul Harvey Weinstein yesterday entered a plea of not guilty in a New York courtroom to alleged rape and sexual assault charges.
In one of the most spectacular ‘falls from grace’, Weinstein’s illustrious career came to an abrupt end as accusation after accusation of sexual misconduct began to come to light, triggering the global #MeToomovement.
He appeared subdued at the arraignment hearing, mumbling only a few necessary words, his plea of '‘not guilty” was apparently barely audible. He also, mumbled ’yes’ several times when the judge went over the conditions of his monitored release.
He has been indicted for allegedly forcing a woman to perform oral sex on him in 2004, and for allegedly raping another in a hotel room in 2013. The 66 year old Oscar winning producer could face up to 25 years behind bars if convicted.
Just last month Weinstein was charged with rape and another sex crime in New York, nearly eight months after the first allegations against him surfaced.
