The second Harry Potter franchise prequel “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” opened with an impressive $62.2 million in the US and Canada.
The sequel fell short of the opening of the first film, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” which debuted with $74 million in a similar November release in 2016.
Internationally, "Fantastic Beasts" grossed $191 million for a total of $253 million, according to the studio’s estimates.
"Fantastic Beasts" competed with movies such as "Dr. Suess' The Grinch", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Instant Family and "Widows"
The movie stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Zoë Kravitz, Callum Turner, Claudia Kim, William Nadylam, Kevin Guthrie, Jude Law, and Johnny Depp.
“Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” is showing in SA cinemas.
