Fans mourn death of ZZ Top bassist Dusty Hill

The late Dusty Hill

Dusty Hill, the bassist in the American rock group ZZ Top, has died aged 72.

An official announcement on the band's Instagram page read: "We are saddened by the news today that our Compadre, Dusty Hill, has passed away in his sleep at home in Houston, TX.

We, along with legions of ZZ Top fans around the world, will miss your steadfast presence, your good nature and enduring commitment to providing that monumental bottom to the 'Top'.

"We will forever be connected to that Blues Shuffle in C. You will be missed greatly, amigo. Frank & Billy."

The statement was signed by fellow musos drummer Frank Beard and guitarist Billy Gibbons.

While Hill had been in Texas to address a hip issue, no cause of death has been revealed at this stage.

Hill was a member of the group for over 50 years and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

RIP Dusty Hill.
