The former Australian singer-songwriter, TV star, and convicted pedophile, is reported to have died at the age of 93 on May 10 with the news only breaking Tuesday.
In a statement released to the media via the Harris solicitor, the family said: ‘This is to confirm that Rolf Harris recently died peacefully surrounded by family and friends and has now been laid to rest.’
Once a revered and popular entertainer the world over, Harris was arrested in 2013 and found guilty of the sexual assault of four underage girls, effectively putting an end to his illustrious career.
In July 2014, at the age of 84, Harris was sentenced to five years and nine months in prison on twelve counts of sexual assault on the four female victims during the 1970s and 1980s.
According to Wikipedia he pleaded not guilty to all of the charges, but was found guilty by a jury, and was sentenced after being told by the judge he had shown ‘no remorse.’
He was released in 2017 and later diagnosed with neck cancer, of which he is reported to have died.
Harris was awarded an MBE, OBE, and CBE, a BAFTA fellowship as well as honorary university doctorates, all of which were revoked after his conviction.
