Facebook still social media platform used most by South Africans

The  2024 “South African Social Media Landscape Report” by Ornico, in collaboration with World Wide Worx, has revealed that South Africans use Facebook more than any other online platform.

The two most noticeable changes according to the report have been a marked decline in the use of X (formerly known as Twitter) and an increase in the use of TikTok.

As quoted in Business Live, Facebook remains the most used social media platform, at 78%, followed by LinkedIn (72%), Instagram (56%), X (51%), YouTube (51%), WhatsApp (49%) and TikTok (33%)’.

Ornico says of the report: 'Focusing on the South African landscape, this report unveils critical insights gathered from an extensive industry survey and meticulous analysis of social media usage trends. It delves into how AI-generated content, from persuasive text to hyper-realistic video simulations, can both enhance and endanger a brand’s identity. As platforms evolve, so do consumer expectations and the methods by which brands engage with their audiences'.
