Didintle Khunou makes history as Janet in Rocky Horror Show

The iconic  Rocky Horror Show science-themed musical will see its first black female lead in the form of award-winning Didintle Khunou when it opens at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town next month.

Khunou will be the first black South African woman to play Janet Weiss, who together with her new fiancé Brad, find themselves stranded during a storm near the house of a rather zany scientist who is attempting to create a zombie - this is when the fun really begins.

The Rocky Horror Show has been performed in over 30 countries since 1973 and translated into more than 20 languages. And let’s not forget the 1975 movie version of Richard O’Brien’s hit show starring Susan Sarandon in the role of Janet Weiss, titled the Rocky Horror Picture Show, it went on to develop a huge cult following.

If you are heading off to the fair Cape for the holiday season, you can catch the ‘naughty but nice’  Rocky Horror Show from December 6 to January 12 at the Artscape Theatre Centre.

Congrats Didintle Khunou!  As they say in the theatre, break a leg for the coming run.
