The family of singer and X Factor judge Demi Lovato is asking for "privacy and speculation" as she recovers in hospital following a suspected drug overdose.
"Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers, and support," Lovato's rep said in a statement to Variety. "Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now.".
However, there's confusion over whether the overdose was heroin related. An earlier report from TMZ claimed paramedics told them it was, but a source close to Lovato has denied this to US magazine People.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Los Angeles police responded to a call at 11.39am local time on Tuesday to a home in the Hollywood Hills for a female suffering from a possible overdose. A source has since told Variety and People magazines that Lovato is now in a "stable" condition.
Earlier, TMZ, citing an unnamed law enforcement source, reported that the victim was the 25-year-old singer and US X Factor judge, who has struggled with substance abuse for years.
The Sorry Not Sorry hitmaker revealed last month that she had relapsed, just months after celebrating six years of sobriety. "To the ones who never left me / We've been down this road before / I'm so sorry, I'm not sober anymore," Lovato sang on her recent single Sober, which features on her latest album Tell Me You Love Me.
Lovato was in the final days of her current US tour. She was due to play in Atlantic City on Thursday night (US Time), before taking a break until late September when she was due to being a two-month tour of Central and South America. Variety now says that show has been cancelled and a new headliner will be announced soon.
Already celebrity support for the Let it Go singer has begun pouring in.
Talkshow host Ellen DeGeneres wrote that it broke her heart that Lovato was going through this. "She is a light in this world, and I am sending my love to her and her family."
The award-winning actor-turned-singer has received treatment for bipolar disorder, bulimia, and substance abuse in the past. Lovato chronicled her daily struggles with recovery in the 2017 YouTube original documentary Simply Complicated. In the film, Lovato opened up about using cocaine while filming an earlier 2012 documentary Stay Strong.
She began her acting career on popular children's series Barney & Friends, before achieving fame on Disney Channel shows and TV movies like Sonny With a Chance and Camp Rock.
Lovato has previously admitted her drinking escalated during her Disney Channel days.
