Danny Boyle to direct 25th Bond film; Daniel Craig to play 007

London (dpa) - British film-maker Danny Boyle will direct the 25th James Bond film, starring Daniel Craig in his fifth outing as agent007, the producers announced on Friday.

Production of the film will begin at British-based Pinewood Studios in December, with Boyle adapting a screenplay from John Hodge, best known for his work on Boyle's 1996 film "Trainspotting."

The untitled Bond film is scheduled to be released in Britain first, in October 2019, and in the United States the following month, EON Productions, Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios (MGM) and Universal Pictures said in a joint statement.

"We are delighted to announce that the exceptionally talented Danny Boyle will be directing Daniel Craig in his fifth outing as James Bond in the 25th instalment of the franchise," producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said.

"The unparalleled combination of Danny's innovative film-making and Daniel's embodiment of 007 ensured we simply had to be partners in the next chapter of this iconic series," said Donna Langley, head of Universal Pictures, the film's international distributor.
