Just two days ago the country legend posted news of his diagnosis via his Facebook account that he had tested positive for COVID-19 writing: “I am under the care of medical professionals and currently receiving treatment. My family and I are asking for privacy at this time. We want to remind the public and all my fans to be vigilant, cautious and careful during this pandemic."
It came as something of a shock when his death was revealed yesterday via his Facebook page. The statement posted simply said: "Joe Diffie passed away today, Sunday, March 29, from complications of coronavirus. His family respects their privacy at this time."
Since the news broke tributes have been pouring in for Diffie with Carrie Underwood, Billy Ray Cyrus, Keith Urban and Charlie Daniels being some of the first to mourn his sudden passing.
Carrie Underwood wrote: "I have absolutely no words. The music and legacy he leaves behind are legendary."
