The 94th Oscar ceremony will go down in history as the night best actor winner Will Smith assaulted Chris Rock for making an off-colour joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith's medical condition, alopecia.
If you are late to the party here's a brief recap: Rock, who was presenting the Oscar for best documentary feature, said that he was excited to watch Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, in "G.I. Jane 2.", which led Smith to rush up onto the stage and try to hit Rock. Smith then told him to get his wife’s name out of his mouth. The clip has since gone viral.
The latest news in the saga is that Chris Rock will not be pressing charges. The Los Angeles Police Department told multiple news outlets that the comedian is declining to take action against Smith.
It appears that the Academy will not be pressing charges either, the organization simply took to Twitter to state that they 'do not condone violence in any form'.
Following the outburst, Smith went on to win the Oscar for best actor in a leading role for his performance in King Richard. During his emotional acceptance speech, Smith apologized for his actions but explained the need to protect his family.

In December 2021, Pinkett-Smith shared on Instagram that she has alopecia, an autoimmune disorder that causes one’s hair, even bodily hair, to fall out.
