Chevy Chase is bouncing back from a stint in rehab to play a naughty grandfather on the run in a racy road movie comedy. The National Lampoon's Vacation star will play a foul-mouthed pensioner in Federal Offense. It will be his first movie role since entering Hazelden Addiction Treatment Center in Minnesota last month (Sep16).Chevy's representative confirmed the news to TMZ, revealing the 72-year-old funnyman was seeking a "tune-up" for an alcohol-related problem. The rehab news came at a busy time for the former Saturday Night Live regular - he is set to appear in two upcoming movies, Dog Years and The Christmas Apprentice, while Chevy and his Vacation co-star Beverly D'Angelo are in talks to play retired characters who have to give up their comfortable lives and raise their grandchildren in a new TV comedy. The couple reprised their roles as Clark and Ellen Griswold in last year's (15) Vacation sequel, which featured Ed Helms as their grown-up son and Christina Applegate.Newcomer Connor Martin wrote the script for Chase's new project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.Federal Offense will centre on three best friends on the run from gangsters and the law after breaking Chase's character out of his nursing home.Announcing the casting to The Hollywood Reporter on Monday (03Oct16), producer Brandon Burrows says, "Chevy is an American icon with an expansive body of work that has made us laugh and cry for almost 40 years. He is a legend in comedy, and audiences will see a side of Chevy they?ve never seen before."
