ChatGPT in the spotlight at US Senate

(Source : Instagram)

"My worst fears are that we... the industry... cause significant harm to the world." – Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI – the company that created ChatGPT and GPT4.

Altman went on to admit before a US Senate committee hearing Tuesday that "regulatory intervention by government will be critical to mitigate the risks of increasingly powerful models".

Discussed before the committee was the safety of individuals who would be on the receiving end of AI-generated advertising, misinformation, or outright fraud.

The future of democracy was also raised as a serious concern as AI could be trained to influence the political opinions of targeted groups of voters – something that could sway an election result.

The fears expressed were many and while Altman was in agreement with every issue brought to the table, he is of the opinion that the benefits will far outweigh any risks.
