Theron has joined a global voice of condemnation over the death of the twenty-two-year-old Iranian Kurdistan who died in custody after being arrested by Iran's morality police for allegedly breaking the country's strict Islamic dress code.
Amini was arrested on 13 September for wearing her hijab too loosely, something considered to be inappropriate under the country's law.
Her family has told the media that her death was a result of torture. Amini died after being taken to hospital in a coma on the 16th of September.
Theron said on social media,” I stand with the women of Iran who are putting their lives on the line to protest their government in the name of #MahsaAmini. No woman should have to fear retaliation, imprisonment or death for making choices about what they wear or how they present themselves to the world".
