As Carrie Underwood's fifth studio album Storyteller marches toward its ?October 23rd release, the superstar singer is doling out bits and pieces of the project. The latest is the brand-new song "Heartbeat" — a collaboration with Sam Hunt. (listen below)
Underwood is known for creatively blending intimate lyrics with bombastic choruses and the power-ballad boom of "Heartbeat" is no exception. Detailing the romantic steal-away style of forsaking the "party in a downtown crowd. . .with the music up so loud" for the far cozier atmosphere of a night drive where you'll "only find static on the radio," Underwood's molasses-smooth vocal delivery sets the mood, leaving the listener feeling as if they're eavesdropping on someone else's date night.
For his part, Hunt provides the perfect male counterpoint, doubling Underwood's vocals in the chorus. But the "Take Your Time" singer also provides a dose of additional star power, proving that Underwood — now one of the genre's indisputable veterans — has a keen eye on the new crop of genre-advancing artists.
"Heartbeat," however, is far from a stunt duet. The song has real meaning for Underwood, who wrote the track with Ashley Gorley and Zach Crowell, and is reportedly inspired by her Nashville Predators husband Mike Fisher. The couple welcomed their first child together, son Isaiah, in February.
Underwood will co-host the 49th CMA Awards with Brad Paisley on November 4th on ABC, and is plotting a 2016 tour. In September, she performed a surprise show in Atlanta as part of CMT Instant Jam. The episode will premiere on October 17th on CMT, a week before Storyteller's release. "Heartbeat," however, is currently available as an immediate download with pre-orders of the album on iTunes.
