BTS named Time Magazine’s Entertainer of the Year

Boy band BTS

RM, V, Jimin, Jin, Jungkook, Suga and J-Hope were honoured by the magazine for the amazing year they have had on the musical scene, connecting with their fans worldwide despite the current COVID-19 pandemic.

They can be seen stylishly gracing the cover, suited up in neutral colours, and gazing stony-faced at the camera. Time said of the group,” Between releasing multiple albums and breaking every type of record in 2020, the Korean pop band ascended to the zenith of pop stardom.”

The accompanying story tells of their successful year despite the global pandemic – they landed their first three No. 1 hits atop the Hot 100 ("Dynamite," "Life Goes On," and the BTS remix of Jason Derulo and Jawsh 685's "Savage Love [Laxed — Siren Beat]"), they released three separate LPs (February's Map of the Soul: 7, July's Japanese-language Map of the Soul: 7 — The Journey and November's Be) and went on to become the biggest band across the globe.

Suga told the magazine,” There are times when I’m still taken aback by all the unimaginable things that are happening, "But I ask myself, 'Who’s going to do this, if not us?'"

Their first English language song topped the charts after its August release, it also bagged them a Grammy nomination in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category.

The seven youngsters credit their success to their hard work, friendship and strong bond. They refer to their fans as ARMY and always make a point of thanking them, acknowledging that things are tough for everyone right now but that their fans are unwavering in their support.
