According to the Mediclinicinfohub a peptic ulcer is a sore in the lining of the stomach (gastric ulcer), duodenum (duodenal ulcer), or oesophagus that develops when the lining is damaged. The acid and enzymes (pepsin) secreted by the stomach cells eat away at the wall of the stomach or upper small intestine, forming an ulcer.
