JOHANNESBURG, (ANA) - Just days before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to say tie the knot, British Airways has announced that they would be celebrating the memorable occasion by adding some extra sparkle to customers’ journeys.
To celebrate the Royal couple, the British airline has said any customer departing from Terminal 5 on the big day, who has the name Harry, Meghan or Megan and their travel companions, would be invited to use their First lounge, accessed through the exclusive First Wing.
The 33-year-old Prince, who's Queen Elizabeth’s grandson and the sixth in line to the British throne, and Markle, 36, are set to say their "I dos" this coming Saturday at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.
“We are so thrilled for Prince Harry and Meghan so wanted to bring some added sparkle and make our customers’ journeys fit for a Prince or Princess to celebrate this incredibly special day,” Carolina Martinoli, British Airways’ Director of Brand and Customer Experience, said.
British Airways has also added an extra touch, by rewarding their customers departing from Heathrow on May 19, with lemon and elderflower Victoria sponges; the same flavour as Harry and Meghan’s wedding cake.
"Extra champagne has also been loaded on to the Toronto celebration flight and the ‘Royal Crew’ will give every customer on board a personal bottle of Castelnau Blanc du Blanc to enjoy alongside their individual celebratory wedding cake," the airline said in a statement.
Megan Horsley, British Airways Customer Service Manager, who will lead the namesake crew, said: “Harry and Meghan’s relationship started across the Atlantic so it seemed fitting for all of us to take-off to Toronto on their special day. I’ve flown with another Megan once or twice before, but never seven so we might have to all call each other by our surnames during this very special flight!”
British Airways said throughout May, customers on long-haul flights would be able to watch episodes of the Toronto-shot TV series Suits, enjoy documentaries and podcasts about how Harry and Megan met and the history of Windsor Castle.
Travellers who miss the event on television would be able to catch up on board, as the wedding highlights would be available on long-haul flights the following day.
"Earlier this month British Airways launched a new three-per-week service to Toronto from Gatwick which is the airline’s first flight to Canada from the London airport," they said.
"Tickets from Gatwick to Toronto start from just £446 return, and as always, customers can choose to cut the cost of flights by using Avios part payment.... British Airways is rolling out a £4.5 billion, five-year customer investment plan, with a focus on excellence in the premium cabins and more choice and quality for all its customers."
