It was written by Freddie Mercury for Queen’s 1975 album A night at the Opera. Although critical reaction was initially mixed when it was released by the group as a single, Bohemian Rhapsody stayed at the top of the UK Singles Chart for nine weeks and had sold more than a million copies by the end of January 1976.
And now, in the year 2018, that very song that many critics said would never sell when it first came out, yesterday became the most streamed song of the 20th century. Boosted by the new movie "Bohemian Rhapsody," the 1975 single and music video surpassed 1.6 billion streams globally, record company Universal Music Group said in a statement.
And with that, Queen and their 1975 hit song have been introduced to a whole new generation of music lovers!
In case you missed it, here is the original music video and the trailer to the 2018 movie starring Rami Malek as the late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. Five weeks after its release, incidentally, it has become the highest grossing musical biography movie ever made, with a global box office take of $600 million.
