Blink-182's Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker are plotting their post-Tom DeLonge future with Alkaline Trio's Matt Skiba. In an interview with NME, Barker revealed that the trio have recorded five new songs together.
"Matt's killing it," Barker said. "He's fun to play with and write with. We're just getting started, but I think we've got like four or five songs right now that I'm really, really happy with. There's a song called 'Punk Rock Cliché' which I love the most right now. It's about friends of ours and their relationships."
The drummer, who is currently promoting his memoir Can I Say: Living Large, Cheating Death & Drums, Drums, Drums, did not specify when the new music would be released, but did assure that they are working towards an album. "The goal here is to come up with an album and just write. We don't put a limit on how many songs we're gonna write. [We just] write a bunch of songs, and when we feel like there's an album ready, there's an album ready. You know, no pressure, no deadlines."
Barker and Hoppus' new music with Skiba would be the first Blink-182 release to not include DeLonge, who departed the group earlier this year. DeLonge was supposed to record a new album with Hoppus and Barker before leaving the band.
"I just wish Tom does whatever makes him happy and stops holding Blink-182 back from what we all agree that we're going to do: play shows, record music, continue this legacy and have a good time doing it," Hoppus told Rolling Stone in January after DeLonge refuted reports that he had quit the band. Skiba joined immediately after to tour with the band and play festivals throughout the year.
