kykNET viewers can look forward to a Deon Meyer drama series starring acclaimed South African actor Arnold Vosloo.
The series titled Plan B is based on the first characters of the master crime writer and is set in the world of art theft and con artists – men who exploit vulnerable women in search of love with cunning schemes.
The scripting for TV was done by Hertzog Prize winner Tertius Kapp, who has under his belt hits like Die spreeus, Gaia, Vier mure and Griekwastad.
Arnold, who has been living in America for the past 33 years and has made a name for himself internationally with films such as The Mummy and Blood Diamond, is excited to be part of the cast.
“When Tim Theron and Cobus van den Berg of Scene23 contacted me about the role in Plan B, I immediately said yes because it ticked all my boxes,” says Arnold. “Firstly, to work in Afrikaans again and secondly to work with the same team that I did the feature film Griekwastad with – Cobus, Tim and director Jozua Malherbe.
“Griekwastad was one of the highlights of my career as an actor, and to work with the same team again, was very special. The script and story are excellent, and the role was both fun and challenging. This was not an opportunity to say no to.”
Apart from Arnold, Tim Theron and Amalia Uys, among others, are in the large, talented cast.
Plan B tells the story of a man with a military past, Ivan Malan (Tim Theron), and his partner, Paul Schmidt (Arnold Vosloo), who steal a painting from a gangster boss – Vlammemesie by the Dutch master Vermeer which is worth more than €30 million.
In the meantime, Ragel Bergh (Amalia Uys) is swindled out of her inheritance by the shrewd Joshua Lansky (Armand Aucamp). Everything looks hopeless until an art evaluator brings Ragel, Ivan, and Schmidt together. The three of them have one thing in common: they want to get their hands on Vlammemeisie at all costs.
It is set for release in January 2024.
