Algoa FM’s popular breakfast show co-host has taken her talent behind the mic to the small screen. Don’t miss her performance in M-Net’s new off-the-wall series, Recipes for Love and Murder.
This food-centric and quirky murder mystery series is based on Sally Andrew's acclaimed novel Recipes for Love and Murder: A Tannie Maria Mystery and centres on Maria Purvis (Maria Doyle Kennedy), an advice columnist with a pet chicken, who decides to investigate the murder of one of her correspondents.
Duru stars alongside the award-winning Kennedy in the 10-episode series that has taken over the prime time slot that traditionally belonged to the Sunday night movie.
Shot on location in Cape Town, The Karoo, and Scotland, it features Duru in the strong supporting role of domestic worker Grace Zihlangu.
Duru says of her character, “ She is a quiet but determined woman with gravitas, she is by no means subservient to anyone in her little town. She lives for her son, but unforeseen circumstances compel her to shift focus and pursue the high hopes she’s always had for herself.”
“The role was emotionally demanding. It doesn't get more raw than a mother's feelings toward her child - but it was a wonderfully meaty role and I tried to portray it as truthfully as I could”.
No stranger to working in the film industry, her past roles include Adventures in Zambezia (2012), In my Country (2004), Running Riot (2006), and Leon Schuster’s Mama Jack (2005). And watch out for this formidable talent in the forthcoming productions, iKhaya Labadala (comedy series) and Wild is the Wind (film).
While shooting the series, Duru took time off from Algoa FM‘s Breakfast Show which she co-presents together with Wayne Hart and Charlton Tobias. Lee joined Algoa FM in 2016 and has since become an integral part of the start of the day for households across Algoa Country.
Season 1 Episode 2 of Recipes for Love and Murder will air Sunday 27 March at 8 o clock on M-Net 101.
