PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Elton John kicked off the second night of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour like a confident, electrified pro.
The nearly three-hour concert Tuesday in Philadelphia began with "Bennie and the Jets," as John pounded away at the piano and took in a long applause at the song's end. He was backed by an equally talented six-member band at the Wells Fargo Center and said the show marked an anniversary: he first played in Philadelphia on Sept. 11, 1970.
John's first show on the tour took place Saturday in Allentown, Pennsylvania, about 60 miles from Philadelphia. He will retire from the road following the 300-date tour, which will reach five continents and stretch into 2021.
He performed two dozen songs, including classics like "Your Song," ''Tiny Dancer," ''Rocket Man" and "Saturday Night's Alright (for Fighting)."
