Broadcast journalist and radio presenter Xolani Gwala died this morning, after a long battle with Cancer. His family confirmed the news to his 702 colleagues
Gwala suffered from Colon Cancer, and revealed on air in 2017 that he would take a break from work to fight the disease. He announced in 2018 that he was in remission but would still undergo maintenance treatment.
Gwala appeared on Real Talk on 3 with Azania Mosaka, where he described his journey and the impact that it had on his family. He mentioned that it affected his father physically, as he suffered a stroke within weeks of hearing the news about his son's diagnosis. Gwala shared a poem on his first day back on his radio show after chemotherapy that describes 'Life' and his journey. He quoted a section of the poem on Real Talk on 3, where he said "I've got a lot less time to live than I have lived."
Tributes have poured in on social media from friends and colleagues.
Rest in peace Xolani Gwala.
Devastating news.
