The star of the hit TV series and his wife of nearly 19 years, Christine Baumgartner, are heading to the divorce court, a representative for the actor said Tuesday.
An official statement released to the media read: “It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action.We ask that his, Christine’s and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time.”
The 68-year-old Oscar winner wed model and handbag designer Baumgartner at his Colorado ranch in September 2004. They share two sons, ages 14 and 15, and a 12-year-old daughter together. They are said to be seeking joint custody of the children.
It was the second marriage for Costner who has four adult children from previous relationships.
The reason for the split was cited as “ irreconcilable differences".
