JOHANNESBURG, October 19 (ANA) – President Jacob Zuma is expected on Wednesday unveiled a statue of African National Congress (ANC) anti-apartheid struggle stalwart Oliver Reginald Tambo at the international airport named after him.
Zuma was joined at the statue unveiling at the O.R. Tambo International Airport by Cabinet ministers and members of the Tambo family, including Dali Tambo, the son of the struggle hero.
O.R. Tambo served as ANC president from 1967 to 1991. He died at the age of 75 in Johannesburg on 24 April 1993.
The statue unveiling ceremony forms part of the O.R. Tambo centenary celebrations that are being held across the country under the theme “Life and Legacy of OR Tambo”.
